A rebound in production levels at the San Francisco Mint was experienced with the 1894-S Morgan Dollar. With a total of 1,260,000 coins minted, it was a sharp increase from the extreme low for the previous year’s 1893-S Morgan Dollar, but still relatively low for the overall series. The production levels at San Francisco would dip in the following year before resuming more typical levels.
The 1894-S Morgan Dollar carries a premium across all grade levels and can be difficult to find in gem condition or higher. The finest graded examples are just three receiving the grade of MS67 from the major grading services PCGS and NGC.
