The 1896 Morgan Dollar represents one of the more available issues of the series with price remaining affordable through gem grades. The Philadelphia Mint struck 9,976,000 coins for circulation, with many released in later years, providing a supply of higher grade examples. This was a change of pace from the several recent years of lower mintages, culminating with the 1895 Morgan Dollar, which were only struck and released in proof format.
The Philadelphia Mint struck 762 of the 1896 Morgan Silver Dollars in proof format. Many of these will exhibit wonderful deep cameo contrast.
